Where to Take a Mid-Day Break at Disneyland

I’m a big believer in smart planning for your park days and a mid-day break is an important part.

Start early, get lots of rides in during the morning hours, have lunch and then take a break. Return refreshed and ready for the night.

Let’s look at where you can do this.

Before We Get Started

If you’re planning a Disneyland trip, start with this post. It covers everything you need to know.

And, find my 2026 crowd calendar here, which shows you which days to avoid.

How Long to Break

I would give yourself 2-3 hours midday to get out of the parks and reset.

I find the most chaotic times are between 1-4pm, so avoiding this chunk of the day is ideal.

Plan to start your day with one of my strategies and focus on rides until lunch. Spend around noon until 1pm on lunch and then break from 1-4pm if possible. This includes the walk to your hotel or break destination and back. Then, return to an evening of fun refreshed.

Here are my strategies to get you started on your day:

Where to Break if you Don’t Have a Hotel Room

We have options! I’m often in the park without a room and have found great success with the following locations:

  • Downtown Disney
  • Disneyland Resort Hotels

Anyone can visit the Disneyland Resort hotels. You do not need to have a room to enjoy the lobby.

Below, I’ve shared the best spots in each hotel along with the quick service option in case you want to dine. I also detail what Downtown Disney has to offer.

Downtown Disney

There’s so much to do Downtown. Dine, shop, or just take a break and people watch.

Downtown Disney is walkable from both Disneyland and DCA.

Check out this guide for all you need to know, along with my recommendations.

Keep kids busy at the LEGO Store. There are usually options for kids to play on LEGO tables.

If you’re looking for a spot for kids to stretch their legs, walk all the way through Downtown Disney nearly to the Disneyland Hotel to find a great open area for kids to run.

There’s a stage with live music sometimes and plenty of food nearby. Check the Downtown Disney LIVE! Entertainment schedule here.

Chairs, benches and shade are available too. Look for this spot just before Din Tai Fung, on your left, if you’re coming from the parks.

Disneyland Resort Hotels

We have 3 Disneyland Resort hotels and they’re all in walking distance of the parks. The Grand Californian is closest. Pixar Place and the Disneyland Hotel are about the same distance.

The hotel common spaces are open to all guests. You don’t need to have a room booked.

Seek out the following from each spot:

Grand Californian Hotel

  • Hotel lobby – Find lots of plush couches and chairs; piano music, the huge fireplace with rocking chairs and more.
  • Craftsman Grill – Great food with indoor and outdoor seating.
  • Secret Patio (pictured below and detailed in this post) – One of my favorite spots.
  • 3rd floor Business Center – This is a quiet space with a few couches and desks.

Here is a complete guide for this hotel with 50+ photos and soooo much info.

Pixar Place Hotel

  • Hotel lobby – Find seeting near check in and down the hall next to the cafe.
  • 3rd floor deck near the pool – This is the spot where you watch fireworks at night.
  • The Sketch Pad Cafe in the lobby – Grab a coffee or treat.

The Disneyland Hotel

  • Tower Lobbies – Adventure and Frontier have the best seating options with couches and chairs to hang out in. Fantasy Tower has lots of old school Disneyland memorabilia to peruse.
  • Hotel Grounds – Walk this resort to find games like the giant checkerboard pictured below and more.
  • Small patio outside Trader Sam’s Restaurant – Find a few outdoor couches and lounge chairs here. Run over to the bar for a drink and return to this spot. Grab a Mickey bar ice cream treat or ice cream sandwich for kids at nearby Tangaroa Terrace.
  • Patio seating outside Fantasy Tower – Find lots of outdoor seating’s in this area with shade.

Other Suggestions

  • If you have a hotel room, take a shower if it’s a hot day. If not a shower, wash your face and reapply makeup. You’ll feel great returning.
  • Have kids fill up on food during your hotel break to keep costs down in the park. We love Marri’s Pizza if you want to eat lunch in your room. They deliver the best pizza in the area! Find them here.
