The Vacation Fairy

Long ago, we traveled A LOT.

It always seemed easier with little ones, as their schedules are less complicated and the cost was certainly lower.

And when we traveled, no matter where we were going, I added a little magic.

Friends, meet “The Vacation Fairy”.

Facts

Before any of y’all give me a hard time about this, let me assure you that I know how ridiculous it seems. I’ve been overdoing things my whole life.

Motherhood was never going to be the exception.

How it Works

As a reward for good behavior, a fairy arrives each night of the trip to leave gifts for each child.

These gifts can be small or big, but mostly tie into the day ahead.

I often disguised money-saving snacks and items I would buy for our kids anyway in these gifts, including pool toys, glow sticks and autograph books.

When my crew was really young, I focused on little things from the Target Dollar Spot to keep them busy in their strollers.

Design your gifts with what you have planned for your day.

The Result

Kids are kids, so we had plenty of little squabbles while on the road or in the air when they were younger. But, The Vacation Fairy did provide a small incentive to behave.

And, as mentioned before, I would have bought most of the “gifts” anyway, so allowing the fairy to deliver them each night just made each trip a little more magical. And maybe it helped them behave, too?

Vacation Fairy Gift Suggestions

Some considerations…..

Note: For each trip, each child gets one gift bag that was refilled each night for them to find in the morning.
