Here’s where I return to again and again. Mostly for the views.
Basic Scoop
North County San Diego refers to the northern most coastal communities in San Diego County. This includes Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, etc etc.
I live in Oceanside, which is an hour south of Disneyland. More about our popular town here.
Carlsbad State Beach
- 4 miles
- Ocean views
- Park near Offshore Surf Shop or on nearby streets for free
- Walk along the coast from Carlsbad Village Drive to Cannon and back
Here’s that route:
Oceanside Pier
- Just under 3 miles
- Ocean views from the pier
- Park in free 2 hour parking spots near Pier View Coffee
- Walk to the pier, out and back, and then south along the strand to Tower 7, or Wisconsin and back
Here’s the route for the Pier:
Oceanside Harbor
- Around 3 miles
- Harbor, boats and sea lion views
- Park in free 2 hour parking near Stratford at the Harbor
- Walk from Stratford toward the beach and to Pelican Fish Market (near the fire pits) and back. Then, walk the other way to see the sea lions – to the Oceanside Yacht Club and back

Along the Way
The “Top Gun House” can be found across from the Oceanside Pier.
