MagicBand+ at Disneyland

Updated July 28, 2024

MagicBand+ is now available at the Disneyland Resort!

The wearable technology that Walt Disney World guests have loved for years is finally available to guests at Disneyland.

We have lots to learn about how the bands will impact our Anaheim parks. I’ll keep you updated as things progress.

Let’s take a look at what we know right now.

Basic Scoop

MagicBand+ is an all new tool for Disneyland guests. Disney shares a great recap of what it’s all about at this link

MagicBand+ is available to all guests, regardless if you’re staying at a Disney Resort Hotel or not. They will work at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure (DCA).

Only one guest can be linked to each MagicBand+.

This new tool is completely optional for your visit. If you’re not interested in using one, don’t worry.

You may use MagicBand+ along with the Disneyland app as you wish. You don’t have to choose one or the other for the entire day.

In the same manner, some guests in your party may use a MagicBand+ and some may not. That’s ok, too.

With these bands, guests will be able to enter the park, scan for Genie+ Lightning Lanes, etc etc.

MagicBands are pairable with a smartphone using the Disneyland app. Your purchase includes a small charging cord for the band.

Key Features Available at Launch

  • Theme Park entry – scan your MagicBand+ at the gate instead of your park ticket or app
  • Lightning Lane entry – scan your MagicBand+ at each Genie+ Lightning Lane instead of the app
  • PhotoPass Images – ask the PhotoPass photographer to scan your MagicBand+ instead of the app or linking PhotoPass cards
  • Shows – your MagicBand+ will “pulse with dancing lights and vibrations” during World of Color, Fantasmic!, and more
  • Batuu Bounty Hunters Interactive Quest – use your MagicBand+ in Galaxy’s Edge to seek virtual bounties across Black Spire Outpost

Components of MagicBand+

Here’s what’s included:

MagicBand+ Set Up

This link shares all the info you need to set up your new band.

Charging Your MagicBand+

Your MagicBand+ purchase includes a charger for it. (It’s a charging cable compatible with any USB-A charger. So, you’ll need the ‘cube’ to plug it into the wall.)

A fully charged MagicBand+ can last anywhere from 1-3 days, depending on how often it’s used.

Disney recommends charging your MagicBand+ overnight and then powering it down until you are ready to use it.

Cost

Prices start at $34.99.

Where to Buy One

shopDisney’s MagicBand+ can be purchased and used at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World once you’re eligible. Note, however: Experiences and features vary between the two destinations.

MagicBand+ should be available at the following locations:

  • World of Disney in Downtown Disney
  • Disney’s Pin Traders in Downtown Disney
  • Emporium at Disneyland
  • Pioneer Mercantile at Disneyland
  • Tomorrow Landing (reopening October 26, 2022) at Disneyland
  • Elias & Co. at DCA
  • Trolley Treats at DCA
  • Oswald’s at DCA
  • Seaside Souvenirs at DCA
  • All three Disneyland Resort Hotel gift shops

Can I Open My Disney Hotel Door With It? Charge Purchases?

Not yet.

New features will be added eventually, but the initial MagicBand+ will not open Disneyland Resort Hotel doors, nor will it allow you to charge purchases to your room.

Are They Necessary at Disneyland?

Not exactly, but we’re still in the early stages of what they can do.

My experience with MagicBand+ at WDW is always good and I think these will be more popular at Disneyland eventually.

They will help save your phone battery for sure. And, I think they’re convenient. Whether they’re essential for your trip remains to be seen.

Check the “Key Features” section above to see if what they do fits your needs. I’ll keep that list updated to help you decide.

What About My MagicBand+ from Disney World?

When synced with the Disneyland app, your MagicBand+ from WDW will work at the Disneyland Resort.

For it to work, however, you must remove it from the MDE (My Disney Experience) app used at Walt Disney World and then add it to the Disneyland app.

Don’t try to drag your ratty old MagicBand (or MagicBand 2) and expect it to work. Those are collectors items now. Only MagicBand+ is expected to work at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

What About DAS?

You’ll be able to scan in for attractions with DAS just as you do on the app.

When you scan at the attraction to enter the line, the cast member will be notified which tool you’re using – DAS or Disney Genie+.

Notes

  • MagicBand+ is ‘waterproof’, but I would hesitate actually swimming with one for too long.
  • Magic Band and Magic Band 2 (both from WDW) will not work at Disneyland at this time.
  • New features will be added! I’ll keep you updated on what’s next.

  1. I am headed to Disneyland in December. I bought 2 magicband+ for my husband and I. It is a surprise trip so I set both bands up on my Disneyland app. I cannot get them to connect to bluetooth. I have tried so many times I am ready to throw them away! When I go to the Disneyland app, I am apparently supposed to see a screen that shows me the battery and options. All I see is a reassign admission screen. I put the magicbands on the DisneyWorld app and they work perfectly. I have tried deleting Disneyland app and factory resetting the bands. Nothing seems to work. Please help. I am so frustrated. Thank you.

    1. I’m sorry Joslyn. I know some guests are having trouble with this. It seems you’re doing all the right things. I’ll look into this more and comment again if I can help you.

  2. I’ve heard mixed reviews on these. We love, love, love Magic band at WDW, but I’m wondering if they are worth it for DLR. Casey have you tried it yet?

  3. Does anyone know how the MagicBand* will work with DAS? Ee are passholders and my daughter has DAS. Do I just request the return on my phone but we can use our bands to scan in?

    1. Yes. Confirmed. Just like a lightning pass, you can request in the app and then scan your band upon arrival. Additionally, the cast members will be notified wherever you’re using LL or and can accommodate accordingly.

  4. just got one, the 19th release is for Magic Key Holders and Disney Vacation club Members only. You have to show proof of being in one of these to even get to where they are selling them

  5. Interesting that Keyholders and Cast members can start using them on October 19. We are checking into the Disneyland hotel on the 19th, and in the parks on the 20th-23rd. I am wondering whether they will also make them available to property hotel guests early as well. I’ll be inquiring when we check in, since they are supposed to be sold at Fantasia Shop
