Black Tap Craft Burgers and Shakes inside Downtown Disney

Updated October 13, 2023

Black Tap Craft Burgers and Shakes opened in May of 2019 at the Disneyland Resort and hasn’t slowed down since.

I had my reservations about this place when it was first announced. It seemed a little too trendy and all about Instagram photos, leaving me to wonder if the excitement would last.

I’ve dined at Black Tap for the food and shakes many times since it opened, as I have been equally impressed with both.

The crazy shakes are delicious and fun. But, the food is what will bring you back again. It’s fantastic.

Let’s see what this place is all about.

Basic Scoop

Born and raised in New York City, Black Tap has shown Southern Californians what it means to make a serious burger.

Check out their history here.

  • Open from 11:00am – 11:00pm most days
  • Counter service
  • Serves burgers, chicken sandwiches, sides, crazyshakes, beer, wine, and a few cocktails
  • Located in the middle of Downtown Disney, below Ballast Point

When to Dine

Black Tap is a popular restaurant with a unique set up for ordering food. This is a ‘counter service’ location, but don’t let that fool you. It’s more than just grabbing a corn dog.

A line will form outside during the busiest dining times. You’ll stand in line, submit your order at the register, pay, and then find a table. Your food will be delivered to you.

Because of this, I recommend dining in the ‘off hours’ if possible. Arrive right at 11:00am and you shouldn’t wait, but if you show up at noon, there will be a long line.

Here are the best times for dining if you want to avoid the crowds:

  • Lunch – arrive right at 11:00am or wait until after 2:00pm
  • Dinner – eat around 4-5:00pm or wait until after 8:00pm

People seek out Black Tap for burgers and shakes. They do both really well. But, don’t miss out on the chicken sandwiches (amazing) and sides like fried pickles.

CrazyShakes

The CrazyShake menu can be found at this link.

If this is your first time, your CrazyShake will arrive and you’ll be a little overwhelmed wondering where to start. Here’s what we do: If you have a piece of cake or something substantial on the top of the shake that can be removed, take it off and put it on the little plate (or saucer) your shake was delivered on. Tackle the ice-creamy shake first, as it will melt. Then, enjoy the cake or other treat that topped your CrazyShake.

Favorites at Black Tap Anaheim

This list is long, but I’ve narrowed it down to:

  • Fried Pickles – These are the best fried pickles I’ve ever had and I’m from the south. We know fried pickles.
  • Queso and Chips – We don’t get much queso out in Southern California, so we love this at Black Tap.
  • The Wagyu Steakhouse Burger – I’ve had only two other burgers that I would say were on par with this one…..the $33 burger at Club 33 and one at the Ritz in Orlando. Black Tap’s Wagyu burger is divine.
  • Black Tap Burger Salad – Skip the bread and enjoy one of these famous burgers salad-style instead.
  • The CakeShake – Perfect for birthday celebrations, the CakeShake is my favorite. I also love Bam Bam and my kids loved the Cookies ‘N Cream Supreme.

Notes

  • Black Tap releases new CrazyShake flavors occasionally and has lots of fun limited-time treats. Follow them on Instagram to keep up.

  • Black Tap hosted my family early May 2022, but all opinions are mine.
