Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure

Updated August 31, 2022

It’s finally time!

Avengers Campus, an all new land, opened at Disney California Adventure on June 4, 2021.

There’s lots to learn.

First, let’s take a look at what we know now.

Basic Scoop

Avengers Campus is the first land designed around super heroes at the Disneyland Resort. It stands where A Bug’s Land used to be.

The land is 6 acres and includes two attractions – one that opened in 2017 and one that debuts when the land opens.

Beyond the attractions, you’ll find character encounters, plenty to eat and drink, plus more.

There are two entrances and exits. One is at the end of the land, near Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! The other is en route to Cars Land.

If Avengers Campus reaches capacity, a standby queue to enter the land will be used. You can join it to the right of the main entrance.

Attractions

WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man ADVENTURE – This is a brand new attraction. Disney shares about it at this link. This attraction initially used a virtual queue full time. Now, it’s on an as needed basis. You’ll know if the virtual queue is in place when you find this attraction on the Disneyland app. I share important tips on how to enter the queue, below. If you’re familiar with how the virtual queue works for Rise of the Resistance, you’ll recognize how it works. But, there’s an added step. Definitely check out my tips.

WEB SLINGERS is similar in design to Toy Story Midway Mania. And, just like Toy Story Midway Mania, this is an all-ages attraction! Note, however, that it does not allow Rider Switch.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! – One of my favorites! This link has the scoop from Disney.

“Guardians” as many people call it, is fun start to finish. Many skeptics of this redesign of the original Tower of Terror now LOVE this attraction. Don’t miss it.

Heroic Encounters

Ancient Sanctum

Meet Doctor Strange here. This entire set up looks amazing! Disney shares:

“You and your fellow recruits have been invited to visit the Avengers Campus, meet Doctor Strange and open your eyes to the mysteries of the multiverse. Don’t miss this once-in-infinite-lifetimes chance to learn the secrets of the mystic arts.

You’ll feel like time will stop when you come face to face with Doctor Strange and he demonstrates his mystical abilities. Who knows, someday you may need this knowledge to defend the earth, and our reality, from threats beyond your imagination!”

Avengers Headquarters

Unlike Ancient Sanctum, Avengers Headquarters will feature several rotating heroes including:

  • Iron Man
  • Black Panther
  • Captain Marvel
  • Black Widow
  • Thor
  • Doctor Strange
  • Ant-Man
  • The Wasp
  • Guardians of the Galaxy

Disney shares:

“Our heroes are ready to defend the Avengers Headquarters, which would surely lead to an action-packed confrontation on the rooftop and all over the building. You’ll definitely want to be there to see what happens.

Who knows, new recruit, maybe someday you will join the Avengers on their next adventure!”

and…..

“Recruits can train with Black Panther’s loyal bodyguards—the Dora Milaje—to learn wisdom from Wakanda and discover what it’s like to be a member of this elite royal guard.”

Food and Drinks

***Mobile Ordering is being used more than ever at Disney parks.

Find out how it works in this post.

I recommend using Mobile Ordering inside and outside of Avengers Campus. And really anywhere it’s available. Once you get used to it, you’ll love it.

How to Use the Virtual Queue for WEB SLINGERS

Just like Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland, WEB SLINGERS has the option to use a virtual queue to keep guests safely distanced and out of line as much as possible. It will only be used when capacity calls for it. Otherwise, this attraction will have a standby line only.

The Basic Scoop

Guests may try to enter the virtual queue at 7:00am and 12:00pm noon.

To join the queue at 7:00am:

  • You will need to have both a theme park ticket to Disney California Adventure as well as a theme park reservation for Disney California Adventure.
  • You may try for the boarding group from your hotel room or anywhere else. Guests who have a Reservation for Disneyland Park will not be able to.

To join the queue at 12:00pm noon:

  • Guests who started their day at Disneyland with a park hopper ticket may try, too! You just need to have entered Disneyland in order to join a boarding group. (Remember, park hopping begins at 1:00pm.)

Notes:

  • If you have a park hopper ticket and plan to hop to Disneyland after starting at DCA, you may try for the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue at noon only if you have already been on WEB SLINGERS. If the return time for WEB SLINGERS is past noon, you will need to cancel your spot in the virtual queue in order to qualify for the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue. (You cannot hold both at the same time.)

Tips

  • Confirm you’re using the most updated version of the Disneyland app.
  • Use data instead of wifi if your wifi isn’t reliable.
  • Make sure all guests in your party have tickets or APs linked in your Disneyland app. Delete any tickets for guests not with you in your app. This is important because as you are going through the steps of the process to get a boarding group, Disney will auto-fill everyone attached to your account. (Your Legacy Passholder ‘ticket’ should remain un-checked and won’t interfere.)
  • Take a minute to get organized and do all of this on your own, away from children who could distract you. Spots are gone in seconds (literally) for this virtual queue. You will need to focus.

Steps

  • A few minutes prior to when you can try for the virtual queue, go into the Disneyland app and log in.
  • From the Home Screen, click on the three small lines in the bottom, right hand corner.
  • From the next screen, click on “Virtual Queues”.
  • The next screen will give you the option for Disneyland or Disney California Adventure. Click on “Disney California Adventure.”
  • From here, you’ll hang out until it’s time to join. Refresh this screen again and again until you see the “Join” button appear. (You refresh this screen by simply touching the screen and dragging it down.)
  • Follow the prompts to join the queue as quickly as possible.
  • If you aren’t successful at 7:00am, try again at noon. Good luck!

Here are the screens you’ll see as you move through the process….

From the Home Screen, click on the three small lines in the bottom, right hand corner:

From the next screen, click on “Virtual Queues”:

The next screen will give you the option for Disneyland or Disney California Adventure. Click on “Disney California Adventure”:

From here, you’ll hang out until it’s time to join. Refresh this screen again and again until you see the “Join” button appear. (You refresh this screen by simply touching the screen and dragging it down.) As soon as you see the “Join” button, click on it and move through the steps asap. You must do this at the exact time you’re eligible (7:00am or noon).

How to Structure Your Day at Disney California Adventure

I share all about how to get the most out of your visit to DCA – and the entire Disneyland Resort – in this post. Don’t miss it.

A good strategy is more important than ever since we don’t have FASTPASSES in use right now.

  1. Help! My daughter bought the chemistry set from Web Slingers & lost the instructions. She thinks they are on the back of the box. Can you please take a picture of it next time you are there & email it to me?

  2. I thought DLR had done away with virtual queues, with guests now able to use Individual Lightning Lane instead?

    1. Hi, Mark.

A virtual queue is in place currently for World of Color, so they are still in use for the Disneyland Resort.

Avengers Campus started with one to enter the land. It’s not in use now. I have kept the info in this post, however, in case the queue is used again.

I’ll edit this post to make that clearer. I apologize for the confusion. Is this what you’re referencing?

      1. Yes, it is. Thanks for replying! Seems that the only options are standby or paying for Individual Lightning Lanes for Web Slingers.

  3. Hi Casey!
My parents, my sisters family, and my family are all headed to DL for Thanksgiving. Since each group already added their families tickets to their own DL app, can I add everyone’s tickets to my app to try for Virtual Queue spots together? Or will each family have to try individually? I hope that makes sense : )

    1. It does make sense.

First, WEB SLINGERS doesn’t have a virtual queue anymore. It’s all standby. (Will be updating this post ASAP, obvs.) Super embarrassing!

But, to your question….you can add tickets to multiple apps (meaning multiple accounts) and it won’t inhibit your ability to join a virtual queue. Or anyone else’s.

So, add everyone to yours….and maybe a few other family members could do the same…..but ultimately, their moves in the app won’t affect yours. And vice versa.

      Does that make sense?

  4. Hi! Do you know if you can be logged into the same account on different devices when trying for the virtual queues?

  5. Do you know if multiple people in your group try to get a boarding pass for web slingers or ROTR at the same time causes errors? We were unsuccessful Monday 6/7 to get a boarding group for web slingers and all of us got the error “something went wrong.”
Also it auto checks all in your group, do you still have to check the box “select all” before hitting “join?”

    1. I was wondering the same thing. If you had to “select all”. It was too fast to actually read any of the words. ? we didn’t get it either. 6/11 we tried web slingers both time slots. So disappointing ? wish you could just wait in line.

  6. Thanks for the info! Do you know if the Web Slingers ride could accommodate a family of five (if one is a toddler)? Thanks!

    1. Good question. The attraction is suitable for all ages, but the vehicle has 4 spots on each side. If your toddler is ok on your lap, y’all might be just fine as is. Otherwise, the Cast Members will split you up, allowing you to take both sides of the vehicle.

They’ll take good care of you.

      Enjoy!

    1. You’re so welcome, Amanda.

In the app, there’s an option to cancel your place in the virtual queue. Find it in the “Virtual Queue” section of the app.

      Enjoy!

  7. Hi….I accidentally added a ticket that will not be in use in our upcoming trip- how can I delete it from the app???

  8. Since Guardians of the Galaxy ride is technically part of Avengers Campus will you have to go through Avengers Campus to ride this or can you still get to this ride by going past the Hyperion Theater?
