Disneyland Resort Hotel Tips and Secrets

Updated January 24, 2026

I’ve stayed at both the Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian Hotel many times over the years and have lots to share about both.

This post will provide info you should know – that most guests miss.

Before We Get Started

Looking for secrets and tips for the parks? The following posts are packed with info:

If you’re planning a Disneyland trip, start with this post. It covers everything you need to know. Find my crowd calendar here, which shows you which days to avoid. And check out discounts for tickets and hotels both on and off site with my preferred travel partner here.

Finally, if you want all the hotel details, dive into these full reviews along with more than 40+ photos for each property:

Grand Californian Hotel Fireplace Patio

Most people flock to the inside fireplace and cozy up with other guests in a rocker or chair nearby.

It’s almost always crowded.

If you find yourself in need of space, check out the other side of the fireplace. It’s a gorgeous patio that most guests never see.

If you’re facing the indoor fireplace, walk to the right and then left out the doors next to Guest Services. Take a quick left to find this spot. It’s the same fireplace – you’ve just found the outdoor version of it now.

The furniture is comfortable and the Southern California climate makes this option realistic most days of the year. Grab a snack or cocktail at Hearthstone Bar nearby and find solace in the secret fireplace patio.

Here’s what the patio looks like:

*And here’s a video of it. Ask a cast member at Guest Services to turn on the overhead heaters if you wish.

Grand Californian Hotel World of Color Viewing Deck

Want to see World of Color in a whole new way and apart from most guests?

Your valid room key allows you onto the Paradise View Terrace located in the Grand Californian Hotel.

Take the Mariposa elevators to the 6th floor to find it. Arrive a few minutes before the show one night in your pjs (with a cocktail if you wish!) for a unique view with no pedestrian traffic back to your room.

It’s fabulous and shouldn’t be missed! (Here’s a video)

And, here’s a photo of the viewing deck:

Disneyland Hotel Towers – Which is right for you

If you’re staying at this hotel, I encourage you to choose the tower you want to stay in.

Here are the details for each….

  • Fantasy Tower – This is the main tower and includes the main lobby. If you like a fun vibe and lots around you, choose this tower. Goofy’s Kitchen is next door for character dining. The Coffee Shop is also nearby for caffeine and other treats. The only shopping you’ll find at the hotel is in this tower, too. Your view will either be a parking lot or the pool. (More about Goofy’s and character dining here.)
  • Adventure Tower – This is the one between Fantasy and Frontier. It has the smallest lobby, but boasts the best views of Downtown Disney or the pool. Club Level guests can visit the High Key Club and enjoy good food and drinks along with fireworks viewing – with music! (More on the High Key Club with photos here.)
  • Frontier Tower – This is my favorite, as it’s the quietest. It also includes a really cool, enormous model of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. (Here is a collection of photos of this model.) This tower is the only one with balconies, too. They’re rare, but available!

Disneyland Resort Hotels for the Holidays

Each of the three Disneyland Resort hotels get all decked out for the holidays and if you’re visiting during the Holiday season, you shouldn’t miss the decor.

This post shares updated photos from 2025, including where you can meet Santa!

Hotel Guides for Kids

Each of the 3 Disneyland Resort hotels have offered these books in the past, so it’s worth asking for them when you check in.

In as recent as 2025, I located them at both the Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian. Pixar Place Hotel said they were out of stock late in the year.

The books are handed out with crayons and include cute activities.

Here are a couple:

Grand Californian Hotel Entrance to Disney California Adventure Park (DCA)

Don’t miss this easy entrance and exit that connects the Grand Californian Hotel to DCA.

I don’t recommend it for rope drop, as the Main Gate is always a quicker option, but it’s nice throughout the day.

Here’s what it looks like:
