The Pacific Bungalow in Oceanside, California

Updated June 4, 2024

We stayed at the cutest little beach bungalow recently and hope to again soon.

It really has everything you need and its location is fantastic.

We spent our visit walking along the beach, lying in the hammock, playing games with the kids and cooking steaks on the grill in the backyard. A killer sunset with leaping dolphins finished our day.

Let’s dive in and see more on this option for SoCal travel.

Basic Scoop

The Pacific Bungalow is located at 1218 South Pacific Street in Oceanside, California. This is approximately an hour south of Disneyland.

The bungalow sleeps 6 total: 4 in the main house and 2 in the guest suite in the backyard. There are two full baths, both with showers.

There’s a deck in the front of the house with four stools perfect for sipping wine or coffee while people watching.

The property is fully fenced in and the backyard includes a large table for dining, a lovely hammock, grill, beach chairs, 2 chaise lounges, beach toys, backyard games, a beach umbrella, and more. (Photos below)

It includes heat and air conditioning, too.

Buccaneer Beach

Visit this small beach for a taste of local Oceanside.

Walk out the front door of the bungalow and take a left. About 1/3 of a mile down is Buccaneer Beach. This is a good option for a short visit or for one where you want to play at the park, too. Find out more about Buccaneer Beach at this link.

Buccaneer is a locals beach and includes a snack shop called adored by residents called the Buccaneer Cafe. Catch people playing music outside at sunset some nights.

Parking is available for free in the nearby lot or along the street.

Pier View South Beach

If you’re wanting a long day at the beach, walk out of the bungalow and take a right. You’ll walk about a mile to Pier View South Beach. Find out more about Pier View South Beach here.

It’s right next to that pier and includes so much to do nearby such as:

  • Grabbing lunch or dinner at casual places and higher end, too
  • Renting bikes or surreys
  • Walking the pier
  • Watching the surfers
  • Playing on the playgrounds
  • Playing beach volleyball
  • Walking the strand
  • Enjoying beachy snacks like snow cones and funnel cakes
  • Fishing from the pier

Metered Parking is available on Pacific Street.

Where to Watch the Sunset

No need to walk far for sunset. You can literally walk across the street and down a few houses to see it at the corner of Oceanside Blvd and Pacific. That looks like…..

But I recommend the following:

  • Pacific and Forster – This is where we watched from. (Photo below) Leave the bungalow, go right, and walk 1 small block.
  • Pacific and Crosswaithe – Also a good option. Leave the bungalow, go left, and walk 1 small block.

Both of these options are wide open compared to those with lifeguard stands. If you have kids with you, this makes the experience easier, as you won’t have to fuss with them wanting to climb. (Can’t do anything about your husbands wanting to. You’re on your own there.)

Other Walkable Options Nearby

  • Rite Aid – We needed an ingredient for dinner, so we walked 2 blocks to Rite Aid. Kids loved seeing Thrifty Ice Cream. (Never heard of it until now.)
  • Baskin Robbins – Because I’m old and unaware of drug store ice cream parlors, I go to Baskin Robbins. You can, too. It’s 3 blocks from the bungalow.
  • Little Caesars Pizza, Pho’ Oceanside Grill & Bar, Roberto’s Taco Shop #13, and L&L Hawaiian BBQ (my son’s favorite) – Find all of these about 3 blocks away at Oceanside Blvd and Coast Highway (the 101).
  • Larry’s Beach Club – Never been, but it looks like fun. This local place has drinks and food.

More Details

  • Netflix is included at no charge.
  • This property is dog friendly!
  • Doors include lock combinations and we felt very safe during our stay. No key necessary.
  • Small additions like lanterns and binoculars are on site, which was nice for exploring the area.
  • A tiny, full kitchen is included in the guest suite. It also has its own gated patio.
