Patriotic Disneyland

Updated April 8, 2026

Our parks are more patriotic than you think.

Disneyland celebrates so many wonderful parts of our country and I’m happy to share them with you today.

Let’s take a look.

If you’re planning a Disneyland trip, start with this post. It covers everything you need to know.

Find my 2026 crowd calendar here, which shows you which days to avoid.

The Flag Retreat Ceremony

I still have yet to see it and not tear up. One of the best parts of the day – don’t miss this.

Around 4:30pm each day (check the app), the American flag is lowered in the most beautiful, patriotic ceremony. Find it at the front of the park in the Town Square area.

A small crowd will gather and all veterans and active service members are invited to step forward for recognition. We say the Pledge of Allegiance and “Star Spangled Banner” is played. The Dapper Dans are there, too! The entire ceremony takes about 20 minutes. You can usually walk right up to see it.

4th of July

Disneyland is known for fireworks and on the 4th, the sky comes alive in an even more spectacular way.

If you can spend the 4th of July at Disneyland, do it. Pay attention to how the crowds look and make your way over to Disneyland Park by early afternoon in case they reach capacity.

It doesn’t happen as often as people think, but July 4th is one of those days when it’s likely.

Disney Celebrates America

“Disney Celebrates America” began Veterans Day 2025 and runs through July 2, 2026.

Disney shares:

“Through heartfelt storytelling, experiences, and meaningful support for veterans, military families, and communities, Disney will shine a spotlight on the people, places, and moments that make our nation special — a tradition of honoring and uplifting others that’s been part of Disney’s story for more than a century. As America’s preeminent storyteller, Disney will help bring the semiquincentennial to life by celebrating the dreams, stories, and optimism that have inspired generations. From sports and entertainment to travel and tourism, Disney encourages families everywhere to explore, learn and discover the diverse lands, and vibrant communities that make up our shared story.

At its heart, America’s story is one of imagination, ambition, and possibility – the same ideals that have guided Disney since the beginning,” said Robert A. Iger, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “This celebration honors both a nation and a spirit that never stop dreaming about what’s next.”

Key highlights for the celebration include:

  • Soarin’ Across America’s debut on July 2, 2026 at Disney California Adventure Park
  • Park celebrations – extended fireworks for the 4th of July
  • TV program – A 24-hour, multi-platform television event hosted by David Muir will air across ABC, Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN, featuring celebrations nationwide
  • Rose Parade – A float featuring “Disney Celebrates America” along with Mickey and Minnie will run through the parade
  • Military Support and Offers – Disney provides military discounts year round and will feature exclusive merchandise. They’re also donating 2.5 million dollars to Blue Star Families, which supports military and veteran families as they serve

American History Details in the Parks

There’s no shortage of Americana throughout the park:

  • Attend the Flag Retreat ceremony at Disneyland each day around 4:30pm
  • Take a stroll down Main Street U.S.A.
  • Explore Frontierland (more below)
  • See Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at the Disneyland Opera House in Town Square
  • Set sail on the Mark Twain Riverboat or the Sailing Ship Columbia, a replica of the first American ship to circumnavigate the earth
  • Explore the Rivers of America and take the raft over to Tom Sawyer Island

Faux Flags

Although you’ll see many, many American flags throughout the parks, there are only 3 real ones within Disneyland and California Adventure.

Why? Because when flags are lowered to half-mast, it would be impossible to do this all over the parks. So, there are only 3 that are actually correct (plus resorts). The rest have a small detail changed such as having a star missing or one less stripe.

The three real flags are:

  • At Town Square inside Disneyland
  • At the front of California Adventure
  • Sarge’s Surplus Hut in Cars Land

Frontierland

The ultimate nod to the 19th Century American Frontier, Frontierland is our most patriotic area of the park.

Walk by the Pioneer Mercantile on your way to the Golden Horseshoe Saloon. Find the Shooting Exposition to your right and the Mark Twain Riverboat up ahead. Then take a ride on an old west mine train called Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Tom Sawyer Island is nearby. You can reach it by taking a raft over. Don’t miss the Sailing Ship Columbia on the Rivers of America. This is the first American ship to circle the globe.

There’s so much to explore in this area. Let’s take look at some photos:
